Toni Hardesty
Toni Hardesty is the surviving spouse of FBI Special Agent Robert (Rob) Hardesty
(EOW 6/2/05). On May 25, 2005, Rob was in SWAT training in
Quantico, Virginia when he fell practicing hostage rescue/aircraft entry
techniques and later succumbed to his injuries on June 2, 2005. Toni and Rob
have two daughters, Sydney and Carly who were 10 and 7 at the time of
his accident. Sydney is now 13 and Carly is 10! Previous to working with the
FBI, Rob was a Lieutenant at the Porter County, Indiana Sheriff's
Department. Rob's funeral was held in his hometown, Portage, Indiana, and
Indiana COPS came to assist Toni with the funeral. This was Toni's first
exposure to COPS and she realized what a blessing this organization was to her
from the very beginning. Since Toni lived in Illinois, she was notified by
Illinois COPS shortly after returning home and was told about COPS
Kids Camp. At that time she was grasping for anything that could help her girls
with this terrible tragedy. Toni took her girls to Kids Camp in August of that
same year (just 2 months after the accident) and was amazed that such a camp
existed and was so thankful for the help that both she and her girls received.
She continues to take her girls to camp every year (her girls both informed her
after the first camp that they would be going to camp every single year)
and Toni also attends Spouse's Retreat. Toni knew from the beginning that she
would always want to give back to COPS for all that she has received. Toni
now serves as the Central Region Trustee and you may reach her by EMAIL.
