Please let Illinois C.O.P.S. know if you have an important life event so that we as a chapter can recognize your accomplishments or sorrows… The Sunshine Committee would like to send cards/flowers/gift to members experiencing significant life events. We would like to send a small birthday gift to our Fallen Officer's children. Examples include: Birthday, Anniversaries, Births, Graduations from High School or College, Sickness/Accidents, Family Members Deaths, and Trials/Court Dates. Please contact Debbie so you may be properly recognized.

Critical Incident Memorial Team (Committee)

The Critical Incident Memorial Team (Committee) will be responsible for all aspects related to the work to be fulfilled when a line of duty death occurs. This would include, working with the department and the needs of the family.

Cycle Across Illinois Committee
Co-Chairs - Mike McTighe and Kimberly Cessna

In 2005 the Cycle Across Illinois was established to honor and remember the fallen police officers in Illinois. The ride travels from south to north over four days on the third weekend of July (Thursday-Wednesday). The ride also raises awareness of the Illinois Concerns Of Police Survivors and has become the largest single charity event for the chapter. The ride participants are surviving family members, loved ones and co-workers of fallen officers as well are active and retired police officers. This ride has become an annual journey for all our riders and support members.

On October 16, 2007, the board members of the Illinois Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors established an annual recognition award called “the Eternal Flame Award”. The award represents a commitment to keeping our officer’s memories burning bright forever

History of National Police Week

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed Public Law 87-726 designating May 15 as Peace Officers' Memorial Day, and the week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week. The law was amended by the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, Public Law 103-322, signed by President Bill Clinton, directing that the flag of the United States be displayed at half-staff on all government buildings on May 15 each year. While the actual dates change from year to year, National Police Week is always the calendar week, beginning on Sunday, which includes May 15.
